The short version
You tell Startsy what you’re avoiding. That text is personal — sometimes very personal — and we treat it accordingly: we store it only to run the product for you, we never use it to train AI models, we never sell it, and you can delete all of it yourself at any time.
Voice input
If you use voice input, your browser's speech service turns your voice into text. We receive only the text. We never receive or store audio.
What we collect
- Task text and resistance choice. The task you type and the reason it feels hard. This is personal data. It is stored so your history and resume features work.
- Session and interaction records. When you started, planned and actual time, whether you finished or stopped early, what helped, momentum choices, restart anchors, rescue reasons, and optional ratings of whether a step felt startable.
- Account data. If you create an account: your email address and your plan tier. If you sign in with Google, Google shares your email address and name with us for sign-in.
- Assessment answers and scores. Quiz answers are stored as 0–4 choices only, then scored into your working profile. They are stored to show your profile, never used to train AI models, and deleted with your account.
- Product analytics. We run our own minimal event log (page views, steps of the start flow) on our own database. No third-party analytics, no advertising trackers, no cookies beyond what the product needs to function.
- Payments. Handled by PayPal. We never see or store your card details. We store the subscription status, sale ID, amount, payment date, and any refund or dispute status PayPal reports to us.
How personalization works
We use your recent starts and interactions to calculate small behavioral summaries, such as which kind of first step has worked for a resistance pattern and which session length you tend to choose. These summaries are calculated from your own records to choose or explain a suggestion. They are product guidance, not a medical or psychological diagnosis.
How AI is involved
To suggest some first steps or ask a bounded clarification question, our servers may send your task text, resistance choice, and a compact profile hint to the configured AI API provider. We currently support OpenAI and Anthropic, plus deterministic local fixtures. We do not use your task text to train our own models. Provider handling is governed by the provider’s API data controls and terms. We store the suggestion we showed you, but our AI request log stores metadata such as model, latency, token counts, and fallback reason rather than raw prompts or completions.
Supabase delivers sign-in emails. Resend delivers our other emails and receives your email address and message content to do so. Transactional emails include renewal and trial notices, verification, and quiz confirmations. Optional weekly insights and product updates are sent only when you turn them on yourself. Turn them off using the unsubscribe link in an email or Account → Preferences. Our email log keeps the email type, delivery status, identifiers, and send time, never the message content or your email address. Deleting your data removes your email preferences and log.
Your data rights
You can download a copy of your data from your account page using “Download my data”. The JSON file includes your profile, tasks, generated steps, sessions, assessments, subscription and payment records, and your last 90 days of product events. You can download it up to three times per hour.
Your account page has a “Delete my data” action. It permanently removes your tasks, generated steps, sessions, restart anchors, interaction events, AI request metadata, assessments, any quiz email address, and anonymous activity from your current browser — not a soft delete. Activity not attached to an account is tied to a random browser identifier and deleted after 90 days.
Where data lives
Data is stored in our Supabase (Postgres) database. Access is restricted by row-level security: your rows are readable by you and by the server processes that operate the product, and by no one else.
